The weather does not appear to recognize we should be in warmer weather, but March for Meals has ended. Meals on Wheels of Greater Hyde Park thanks all of the Community Champions who supported what we do each day, especially those who joined our volunteers in delivering meals in the greater Hyde Park area and The Village of Rhinebeck. Thanks goes out to the businesses that allowed us to put out a coin box and to all who contributed. Special thanks to the Marist students/North Road Communications for all of their help with our social media and radio communications and for delivering and spending time with our clients!
The month of March mobilizes hundreds of local Meals on Wheels programs across the country to reach out to their communities and build the support that will enable them to serve America’s seniors all year long. The 16th annual March for Meals campaign gives local businesses, organizations, governments and volunteers who contribute so generously in their communities an opportunity to support homebound seniors in a variety of ways to make America stronger and healthier. This support helps us deliver nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks to our local seniors all year long. By volunteering, donating or speaking out, you can ensure the seniors in your neighborhood can live more healthy, happy and independent lives at home, where they want to be. Stay tuned for more details on the exciting activities we have planned!
As we begin a new year and conclude another successful Share the Love campaign, we would like to take the opportunity to thank the Marist College students and in particular the leadership of the North Road Communications team for their dedication and assistance throughout 2016. The team did a fantastic job of not only producing very professional materials and social media posts, but were also instrumental in securing press and media coverage to raise awareness of our mission. Students from across the Marist community and athletic teams brought much joy when they volunteered for meal delivery, helped provide Blizzard Bags for our clients and produced a video of our volunteer luncheon. Thank you Marist team! We look forward to working with you again in 2017! Happy New Year to all! #SharetheLove
On November 30th, Meals on Wheels of Greater Hyde Park gave thanks to all of our volunteers with a Subaru Share the Love luncheon in the fellowship hall of the United Methodist Church of Hyde Park. The luncheon was held to honor the dedication and service of our volunteers.
“I don’t know any more about how electricity works than I do about volunteers. I just know when I flip the light switch, the room becomes brighter. When volunteers do what they do, the world becomes a better, brighter place to be. Thank you volunteers,” said Jack Fenton, our Board President.
There were 83 people in attendance including volunteers, staff, board members, and other guests. We would like to give a special thanks to Lewis Ruge of Ruge’s Subaru for attending, NY State Senator Sue Serino and Hyde Park Supervisor Aileen Rohr for joining us. We thank you for your continued support of our organization! Excellent food and a great time was enjoyed by all!
Choose to Share the Love with Vulnerable Seniors
Exciting news! For the ninth year running, the Meals on Wheels network is participating in the Subaru Share the Love Event. Over for the past eight years, Subaru has donated nearly $10 million to Meals on Wheels—that’s the equivalent of more than 1.4 million meals to seniors across the country!
Why does Subaru support Meals on Wheels? Too many seniors are struggling to stay independent and healthy. One in four seniors lives alone in isolation and one in six seniors might not know from where their next meal is coming. This is simply unacceptable, which is why Meals on Wheels of Greater Hyde Park provides the nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks to the seniors of our area. This vital support keeps seniors in their own homes, where they want to be.
We’re incredibly grateful to Subaru and its retailers for supporting our organization and the seniors we serve. With that in mind, we thought you might want to learn a little bit more about the Share the Love Event.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
This November 17, 2016 through January 3, 2017, for every new Subaru vehicle leased or sold, Subaru will donate $250 to the customer’s choice of participating charities. Meals on Wheels America is one of four national participating charities, and has been since the inception of the event. And through this campaign, as a Member of Meals on Wheels America, our organization will receive a share of the revenue earned in New York State.
You might not be in the market to purchase a new car, but if you are—please look into the Share the Love Event to learn more. If you’re not shopping for a new vehicle, you can still help by spreading the word to your family and friends. A few quick and easy ways to do that:
And remember– this holiday season, you can ensure our senior neighbors are not forgotten when you buy or lease a new Subaru and select Meals on Wheels America as your charity of choice.
On May 24, 2016 the Hyde Park Rotary Club, once again, donated money to Meals on Wheels of Greater Hyde Park at their Annual Giving Breakfast. Board members Patti Irwin and Jack Fenton were there to accept the donation from President Matt Cruz and to thank the Rotary Club for their continued support. Thank you.
