This March, hundreds of local Meals on Wheels programs across the country will reach out to their communities to build the support to enable them to deliver nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks to America’s seniors all year long. By volunteering, donating or speaking out, you can ensure the seniors in our neighborhood can live more healthy, happy and independent lives at home, where they want to be. Call or email us today to find out how you can help!
There will be NO Meals on Wheels deliveries today due to the inclement weather. Deliveries are expected to resume on normal schedule tomorrow (Wednesday).
Over the last month, Meals on Wheels of Greater Hyde Park celebrated its 40th year of delivering nutritious meals to elderly and disabled individuals. In order to properly recognize this milestone, we participated in a number of events that celebrated its accomplishments.
On Sunday, Oct. 4, we hosted a booth at the Hyde Park Food Truck Festival on Albany Post Road. A series of vendors came out to give Hyde Park residents samples of their meals, which included gourmet hot dogs, fresh and local produce and a variety of baked goods. At the event, our president Mr. Jack Fenton and the other members of our organization handed out free Meals on Wheels merchandise and provided information about our organization to attendees.
Coppola’s Italian Ristorante sponsored a fundraising dinner on Oct. 8. Delicious meals were served to all patrons, and ten percent of the proceeds were given to Meals on Wheels of Greater Hyde Park.
Both the Food Truck Festival and the dinner at Coppola’s proved to be successful in spreading the word about what our organization has been working hard to do for the community over the past 40 years.
We were also joined by very supportive politicians throughout the month:
- Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro helped deliver meals on Oct. 7. See the video he posted on his Facebook page.
- Assemblymember Didi Barrett joined us for meal delivery and posted a recap on Oct. 10 on her Facebook page.
- On October 27, notable community member Senator Sue Serino stopped by to celebrate with us. She served as a volunteer along with our regular weekly volunteers by delivering meals to our clients. See the related post on her Facebook page.
Finally, numerous businesses and private organizations posted our lawn signs and sponsored our coin boxes which significantly helped our fundraising efforts.
Whether you attended one of our 40th anniversary events, volunteered, made a donation or simply recognized Meals on Wheels of Greater Hyde Park, we’d like to say THANK YOU! We look forward to many years of service to come!
